Spotted Dog Jewelry Design is a boutique jewelry design company based in Darien, CT. Spotted Dog
started in New York, NY in 2003 by Caroline Constantine Rosen Her attempt to keep up with style
while working in the fashion industry led to a promising business concept. She originally created
simple, but bold necklaces to add variety to a woman’s basic wardrobe and to help her constantly
look current. As the compliments came pouring in, the blueprint of a company started to take shape.
Each design started with the idea of individuality. Having had painting as her concentration
for her Studio Art Degree from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, she loved the idea of never
creating the same piece twice. Inspired by color, proportion and all things unanticipated, she looked to
the things around her to navigate her design path. From her summers on the beaches of Rhode Island,
she embraced the ideas of freshness, crisp balance and organic shapes. Her unique color sense and
attention to proportions comes from exploring with tubes of oil paint, taking cues from artists ranging
from Jackson Pollock to Andy Warhol and pouring over her collection of vintage fabrics. With these
thoughts in mind she set out to create interesting, wearable jewelry that had the wonderful recognition
of being “one of kind”.
She first introduced her Semi-Precious Collection, a compilation of distinctive necklaces
created with semi-precious stones, such as amethyst, citrine, coral, jade, quartz and turquoise, at a
trunk show which was a complete success and the green light to take on the business full time.
Her next three collections came shortly thereafter. She stumbled upon an old strand of Lucite
beads at a flea market and became completely enamored with the color, texture and history behind
them. From this the Vintage “Re-Mix” Collection was born. Scouring the country she found great
resources for vintage Lucite beads that she eagerly mixed with new Swarovski crystals and current
findings to create an updated spin on an old classic.
Serendipitously again, her next collection came together. While designing a commissioned
necklace, she began to look for materials that would come together to create a knockout conversation
piece. The idea of an abundant necklace woven of distinctive, gleaming, brightly colored freshwater
pearls seemed like the perfect option.
From the Vintage “Re-Mix” collection our newest collection has sprung, Vintage Metals. This
line is all about fabulous bold necklaces, bracelets and earrings created with vintage materials;
whether gold plated or left as is and adorned with vintage beads, every piece is more charming than
the last. This is by far our most popular collection right now because customers really enjoy finding
something so different: vintage, recycled, light weight, travel worthy jewelry that they are not seeing
anywhere else!
In addition to our one-of-a-kind pieces and limited editions we also offer bridal services,
working closely with the bride to create the perfect items for bridesmaid gifts, mother of the bride or
groom, or even the bride herself. We are also always happy to do custom work for a client; sometimes
it is hard to match that fuchsia dress or printed tunic!
